Deaf Youth USA: Social Justice is an 501(c)3-pending organization through which education and advocacy are important national issues that concern the young deaf community. So far, our focus has been on fighting for social justice through media and activism by community organizing and educating our peers about political issues. We hope to be able to compete for a grant that will help us broaden our goal in increasing the number of young deaf people aged 18-35 as trained community organizers who deeply care about America’s affairs.
DYUSA has begun the application process to for our 501(c)(3) status with the federal government. At the moment, we are officially incorporated with the state of California and have sealed documents from the Secretary of State. Additionally, we also have an EIN number by which we can be identified for tax purposes.
We are currently negotiating lawyer fees with three separate non-profit law firms based out of San Francisco. Once an agreement has been made, further progress will come.
We hope to be officially recognized as a 501(c)(3) organization by the federal government by 2011. DYUSA is also free of any binding affiliations with other organizations and stands alone in our strategy-making.
